Born in Freetown, Sierra Leone, Abdul Tee-Jay - an abbreviation of the full name Tejan-Jalloh from the Fouta Jalloh region in Guinea from where his family originally came - started playing guitar at the age of nine. His parents objected, so he practised at a cousin's house, spurning the western pop styles being adopted by his friends and following local musicians from Sierra Leone, Ghana and Nigeria. A dozen great tracks the three albums to date, a timeless selection of exuberant West African dance music.
