Chet Atkins played a major role in creating what came to be known as The Nashville Sound and throughout his career he maintained a reputation as a leading performer, producer and talent-spotter. As a guitarist he was influenced by Django Reinhardt and Les Paul and brought to country music a new sophistication. No self respecting guitar player should be without Chet Atkins in his or her collection; his virtuosity, eclectic taste and almost incomprehensible range of playing are simply unparalleled. As a session guitarist, Chet Atkins played on Elvis Presleys Heartbreak Hotel (which he also arranged) and backed the Everly Brothers on their hits Wake Up, Little Susie and Bye Bye Love. Many of the hit records he produced during his days at RCA such as Don Gibsons Oh Lonesome Me, are now classics. Chet Atkins released over a hundred solo albums (selling an estimated 35 million records). The centerpieces of our edition are two LPs that are widely regarded to be amongst his finest, Teensville, and Chet Atkins In Hollywood. These exquisite long out of print late fifties albums, find Atkins in gorgeous sound (in solo, small group and orchestral context) and at the height of his powers.
