Artist: J.S. Bach Title: The Well Tempered Clavier II

Details: Following on from last year’s release of Book 1, this is the second part of this re-appraisal of the "Old Testament" of Western Music: Bach’s 48 Preludes & Fugues. Pascal Vigneron, through careful study and analysis of the part-writing and textures, has found that certain of the preludes & fugues are more suited to a particular keyboard instrument. Thus, as well as the harpsichord and piano each playing eight of the preludes & fugues, the organ has been chosen for the performance of another eight, where the contrapuntal style and sustained character benefits this approach. Rather unusually, the Steinway piano has been tuned to the same Werckmeister III temperament as that used on the harpsichord and organ, but keeping to the modern pitch of A440 Hz in each case.
