These works by three Viennese composers representing the Italian strand in Baroque music at its best were recently performed and recorded in the beautifully reconstructed Dukes’ Hall of the Cistercian abbey in Lubiaz. Even though we are not sure whether this splendid structure ever served as the venue for the performances of music by the Bononcini brothers, it is a source of satisfaction and hope that after almost two centuries the abbey, once the world’s largest Cistersian monastery, is being given a new lease of life.
