Another Radio France recording, from 1996, this release offers the only available recording of Caldara’s oratorio about the Christian conversion of the bellicose Clovis, King of the Franks. Martin Gester’s performance captures both spirit and tenderness in Caldara’s music, which readily stands comparison with that of his contemporary Handel.
