Details: Philippus de Monte ended a distinguished musical career as Kapellmeister, from 1568 until he died in 1603, at the Hapsburg court in Vienna. With Lassus, he is considered a central figure in the golden age of Franco-Flemish polyphony, which determined stylistic trends in Western European music for almost two centuries. The Ensemble Orlando Fribourg, founded in 1994 to specialise in early vocal repertoire, here makes its CLAVES debut in a programme of motets, madrigals and chansons by de Monte, most of which are not otherwise available in the current catalogue.
