Artist: Eric Dolphy Title: Complete Recordings feat. Herbie Hancock

Details: These recordings are taken from a 1962 broadcast originating from the Gaslight Inn in New York City with Dolphy leading a pickup group including Herbie Hancock And Richard Davis drummer Edgar Bateman And trumpeter /flugelhornist Ed Armour. Dolphy is heard almost exclusively on alto sax And produces some typically adventurous solos. The leader's memorable flute makes the nearly twelve And a half minute "Left Alone" the most valuable track. He also performs 3 of his originals : "Miss Ann" "G. W. " And "245". singer Joe Carroll steps in for a Vocal on "Lady be Good!" in which Dolphy is featured briefly on bass clarinet. The broadcast is faded with DJ Alan Grant's voice-over on top of an incomplete rendition of Dolphy's "245. " The recording quality has been improved as much as possible. Long unavailable on LP briefly reissued on CD by the now defunct Stash label as Live in New York this release will be of interest to serious collectors of Eric Dolphy
