Details: This 1968 Delmark recording was originally issued as "Electric Sleep", and the label has now reissued it, re-mixed & mastered from the original analogue tapes and with a brand new cover and title. The legendary country blues poet is accompanied by an all-star blues band : Jimmy Dawkins, guitar; Sunnyland Slim, piano; Carey Bell, harmonica & bass; Earl Hooker, Joe Harper, bass; Odie Payne Jnr., drums. The title "Electric Sleep" was a take on the Muddy Waters LP title "Electric Mud". But the similarities ended there; whereas ‘Mud’ was semi-psychedelic and musically quite a departure from a traditional blues sound, "On The Chicago Blues Scene" (‘Electric Sleep’) simply combines traditional Estes with an electric blues band. Sleepy John Estes (1899-1977) was born in Tennessee, and across a six-decade career retained his own plaintive, rural style.
Info: Other Delmark albums still available by him are : "Legend Of..." (603), "Broke & Hungry" (608), "In Europe" (611), "Brownsville Blues" (613), "Newport Blues" (639).
