Details: A period when Benny Goodman didn't want to front a steady orchestra of his own but had begun instead to guest as a clarinettist with various symphony orchestras. The first studio date here was for the benefit of Fletcher Henderson -- nostalgic big band tracks using his arrangements. After a couple of sextet tunes -- Nancy Read, vocals -- most of the rest of the CD is devoted to Benny Goodman With Strings. On these it is clear that the bandleader has become more and more interested in classical music
