These New York studio sessions were recorded between 1950 And 1951 at a time when Lester Young was jumping between his own group JATP tours And guest appearances at clubs And recording sessions. John Lewis soon to be a founder member of The Modern Jazz Quartet was pianist with 'Pres' for 8 months. Jazz writer Gunther Schuller wrote : "I am convinced that Lewis was Lester's favourite pianist the 17 sides Lester recorded with Lewis are to his late discography what rays of sunshine are after days of overcast skies. " To these 17 originals Definitive Records have added four bonus alternate takes. Also present on these 3 recording sessions are bass players Gene Ramey AndJoe Schulman And drummersJo Jones AndBill Clark"
