Artist: Henry Mancini Title: Charade
Info: "Charade" - Henry Mancini (comp arr) and orchestra .. With the increasing popularity of stereo at the very latest Hollywood producers were quite clear that the original film music had to be released as a follow-up to films with a star cast. In those days cinema-goers were not able to watch a video film on television in the comfort of their own homes. But when they heard the film soundtrack the film woke to life in their mind's eye. The music of Henry Mancini who soon achieved worldwide fame with his "Pink Panther" theme proved to be highly successful with cinema lovers. One senses that he did not merely follow the storyline of the film when composing his music but that he created a collection of highly independent character pieces which reflected the atmosphere of the film scenes. The typically French sound of the accordion in "Bistro" immediately conjures up a vision of Paris. But that is only the beginning. T 4 time via the clackety clack of Latin music to a fusion of stamping mambo and what is thought of as typically French sound. This impulsiveness and modern sound-colouring might arouse some doubts as to whether the cantilena ("Bye Bye Charlie") which is a classical quartet movement really comes from a film. But the soundtrack helps to jog one's memory and to recall numerous other musical details which were lost in the flood of coloured images in the cinema or in front of the television.
