Info: ÷Santa Milonga÷ by Daniel Melingo is a Top of The World Choice in the June/July 2005 issue of Songlines. It is the first release on the new Manana label created by Argentinian Eduardo Makaroff (guitarist with the acclaimed Gotan Project) to spotlight contemporary tango - not Gotan offshoots but the varied Tango artists And styles that have inspired And influenced them. Daniel Melingo was born in Buenos Aires in 1957. He is a singer-composer who remains faithful to the traditional tango rhythms And instruments like the button accordion. But he adds a modern twist. He writes And sings about odd characters who walk the streets of his home city - in a street-wise lingo that only Argentines would understand. by all accounts he's quite a character himself - And was a member of Argentinean rock band Los Abuelos de la Nada in the early '80s; made albums on US Polygram And the DBN label in the 90's; And has appeared on many tango compilations
