Details: The late Fred Neil (1936-2001) was one of the most compelling folk-rockers to emerge from Greenwich Village in the mid '60's. A true cult figure of enormous influence, Neil inspired everyone from Bob Dylan, John Sebastian and Stephen Stills to David Crosby, Tim Buckley and Paul Kantner. That he chose to retire from the music industry in 1971, never to record again has only deepened the enigma and strengthened the extraordinary impact of his low, rich voice and intensely personal and reflective compositions. Raven has culled 25 tracks from six classic albums for this unique, multi-label, single CD career overview. Taking in two rare early tracks from his folk roots, this collection moves through his genre-defining folk-rock albums for Elektra and ends with tracks from his last album in 1971. All of his greatest songs are included. Detailed and insightful liner notes from prominent US folk-rock authority Richie Unterberger.
