This first recording of Nono’s major late work ‘Prometeo’ is led by Peter Hirsch, who collaborated with Claudio Abbado and the composer at the première of the revised version, in Milan in 1985, and has directed it a number of times sinceIt is not an opera, but a ‘tragedy of listening’, and some of the wonderful experimental effects are just ‘made’ for surround sound technology, which this recording provides in spades! An extraordinary experience.
