In September 1985 four of the greatest musicians of the 20th century returned to the studio in Memphis where it all began: Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison and Johnny Cash went back to Sam Phillips’ Sun Records Studio to record an ode to Elvis Presley and the city they all loved. It was their goal ‘to reassert the vitality of their art outside the often stifling definitions of the music industry and to reassert the vitality of Memphis as a music-making centre of great potential.’ ‘Memphis Rock and Roll Homecoming’, with its mix of jazz, blues, country, gospel, rock ‘n’ roll and soul, is now a proud part of the legendary city’s legacy!
