This CD kicks off with six trio tracks (Charles Mingus, bass & Max Roach, drums) from the famous Massey Hall series of concerts in Toronto when the pianist was in fine form. Despite continual psychological problems Powell had become bop's most influential pianist. The remaining recordings included here -- with George Duvivier (b) & Art Taylor (d) -- occasionally reflect his mental turmoil, for instance the disturbingly fascinating "It Never Entered My Mind"
