Details: This release brings together two complete LPs by piano genius Bud Powell : "Piano Interpretations By Bud Powell" (1955); and "Blues In The Closet" (1956). Both are Norman Granz productions, in trio format and showcase jazz standards as well as bebop classics - and are also the last two LPs Bud Powell would record before departing for Europe. The pianist was suffering from numerous problems at the time these albums were made. He was committed to a mental hospital from late 1951 to early 1953, following an arrest for possession of marijuana; and following a period in hospital, Powell’s playing began to be seriously affected by Largactil, a drug prescribed for the treatment of schizophrenia. Added to this, between these two recordings his brother Richie was killed in the same car crash that ended Clifford Brown’s life. Personnel : on "Piano Interpretations" - George Duvivier (bass), Art Taylor (drums); and on "Blues In The Closet" - Ray Brown (bass), Osie Johnson (drums). Total Time : 75:09 min. - 21 tracks - Splendid Sound Quality New and careful 20-Bit Re-Mastering. "Of all the musicians I ever loved...... it was Bud who influenced me the most. He was so expressive, such emotion flowed out of him!" - Bill Evans.
