Details: Enlli is the new album by Llio Rhydderch, leading traditional Welsh harpist and one of the world's foremost exponents of the Welsh Triple Harp. It is a truly beautiful, haunting and magical album, composed and performed by Llio, drawing deeply on the traditions, history and landscape of Wales and in particular North Wales' Llyn Peninsula, which leads to the ancient island of Bardsey or Ynys Enlli, from which the album takes its name. This has been a place of pilgrimage since the 5th Century, when Cadfan, the first Abbot, built his cell there. According tolegend, 20,000 saints lie buried on the island. The Enlli Suite, making up the first 5 tracks of the album, runs for 27 minutes and reflects various aspects of this mystical site. There is an additional DVD disc with this release with footage of the island, the region, the artist and her family, etc. Llio Rhydderch is descended from a direct, unbroken line of ancient Welsh harpers, and was taught by Nansi Richards, acknowledged in her day as the Queen of the Welsh Triple Harp. Llio guested on a recent Donal Lunny album and subsequent TV broadcast; has been involved in a number of soundtrack projects including Beautiful Mistake, a film about John Cale; and has co-authored a book about Welsh harpers. Her 2 previous Fflach albums: Telyn (CD 196 H) and Melangell (CD 234 H) are still available, and have been great favourites, along with the new album, of the Late Junction team on BBC Radio 3.
