Artist: Roaring Jelly and Michael Hebbert Title: Golden Grates & The Rampin' Cat

Details: Here’s two of the fine LPs that entertained Free Reed’s loyal admirers in the 1970s. The Derbyshire-based Roaring Jelly had built a great fan-base with their hilarious songs and novelty instrumentals, underpinned by seriously good song writing. 'Golden Grates' (geddit?) was their first LP - and a comedy triumph. Michael Hebbert was a pub musician from Wallingford, and played his ‘Portable Pub Piano’ (a rare Jeffries Duet System concertina) at the Rampin’ Cat pub, and here’s a selection from his varied repertoire of ballads, songs and English country music. He’s joined by John Tams, Rod Stradling and Three Men In A Boat to create a jolly new take on pub music and song.
