Sonny Rollins is without doubt the greatest living saxophonist and has just entered the 6th decade in his illustrious career. This 50 track 4CD set contains those classic 1950s recordings the ones that made him a jazz legend. Amongst the other luminaries in attendance are John Coltrane Miles Davis The MJQ and Thelonious Monk. The 52 page illustrated booklet tells Sonny's story and includes session detail and rare photos. Sonny Rollins has had a long productive career in jazz beginning at the age of 11 and playing with piano legend Thelonious Monk before reaching the age of 20. Rollins is still touring and recording today. We feature key recordings from the early 50s when he was starting to make a name for himself and working with all of the above aswell as the likes of Kenny Clarke Art Blakey and Donald Byrd. These recordings would propel Rollins to legendary status.
