Artist: Schola Antiqua Title: Octoechos Latino

Details: In Gregorian Chant it is the structure of scales or modes which determines the sentiments and emotions that are aroused. The Latin Octoechos system is the melodic classification of the whole repertoire, rooted in the 8th century. The works of Gregorian Chant are contained in books called Tonaries’, and are classified according to their tones or modes. ‘Schola Antiqua’, a prestigious Spanish Chorale formed in 1984, displays a complete panorama of Gregorian Plainchant, flawlessly performed, but charged with emotion, authenticity and deep prayer.
