"East Of The Sun" is the fifth album by Tuatara - the band formed by R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck and Screaming Trees drummer Barrett Martin, and is released on Fast Horse Recordings, as were their previous two CDs). Additional band members include R.E.M. touring guitarist Scott McCaughey (also of the Young Fresh Fellows), bassist Kevin Hudson, vocalist-violinist-cellist Jessy Greene (ex-Geraldine Fibbers), trumpet/flugelhorn player Dave Carter, and saxophonist/flutist Craig Flory. Guests on the album include : Gary Louris (The Jayhawks), Mark Eitzel (American Music Club), Victoria Williams, Mark Olson, John Wesley Harding, Ottmar Liebert, Dean Wareham (Luna), Iraqi oudist Rajhim Alhaj & Sufi poet Coleman Barks. Tuatara, having slowly evolved from an instrumental band to a full-fledged performing act, explores numerous musical genres, including '60s rock 'n' roll, western folk, spoken word vocals and various World Music influences : Spanish, Arabic, Asian and Lebanese.
