Among the many tributes released to celebrate Chopin's bicentenary here is something completely different -- performances from the world of jazz, musicals and other genres, including some very early recordings

A music box waltz from 1885 is probably the oldest surviving mechanical representation of the composer's work. Among other charms there's a 1904 version of Nocturno sung by a Russian soprano, a selection of songs which in 1930s Paris were used as decorative music at society soirées, an extract from the Broadway hit musical Polonaise and a pepped up version of Waltz Number Two in C Sharp Minor from jazz pianist Hazel Scott
