Few artists get to define the rules of a genre but in the case of Country music Hank Williams is the father. Almost everything in Country is measured against his short but trailblazing career. A bright star at 25, dead by 29, he left a body of songs rich in emotion which catalogued his often reckless and almost always, troubled life. That country performers since have used his example as a blue print for their own work is no surprise given that many of his songs transcended the genre to become more widely championed in the world of ‘popular' music. This compilation includes his first recordings ‘Never Again Will I Knock On Your Door' and ‘Honky Tonkin', his subsequent debut for MGM, the Top 5 country hit ‘Move It On Over' and the record which really made him a star in the Spring of 1949: the old standard ‘I'm A Long Gone Daddy'. Hank Williams would die in the back of a Cadillac, on the way to a concert. The last single released in his lifetime was I'll Never Get Out Of This World Alive” which is again featured here. Add to that the million sellers ‘Jambalaya', ‘Hey, Good Lookin' and ‘Kaw-Liga' and hits from every year of his career and this is the essential Hank Williams.
