Tiganeasca is made up of Yiddish and Gypsy reminiscences blended with contemporary sounds, and bears the special stamp of some new arrivals amongst the musicians, which makes for a much fuller, richer sound. The original Yeux Noirs group with leaders Eric and Olivier Slabiak on violin and vocals, Frank Anastasio on swing guitar and vocals, Marian Miù on the Romanian gypsy cymbalom and Aidje Tafial on drums now includes Julien Herné and Elise Blanchard (Mathieu Chedid) on bass guitar, Dario Ivkovic on Serbian accordion, Vincent Peirani (Daniel Humair, Michel Portal and Laurent Korcia) on jazz accordion, not forgetting some exceptional guest appearances on this album - Klezmer clarinettist Yuri Schraibman, guitarist Tomas Gubitsch (Astor Piazzola), and percussionist Thomas Ostrowiecki. Plus an electronic touch from Smadj for his remix. Zig-Zag Territoires has paid particular attention to recording this music so as to capture its spontaneity and contagiously joyful quality. Hence the location in the natural acoustics of a Lutheran Church in Paris. one of the sounds that give the label its special identity.
